Abstract

In this study historical changes of Japanese soundscapes were studied by a statistical analysis of the sound environment represented in the world of Haiku. Generally, relationship between sounds and situations where the sounds were heard has not been changed so much. The historical changes of Japanese soundscapes were changes of frequency of combinations of sounds and situations where the sounds were heard. Many sounds lost their symbolic meanings. Japanese have lost their own sensitivity to sounds.
