|Preparation of polymers and their structural analysis|

|Introduction to polymers used in our life|
|Materials such as plastics, proteins, cellulose, starch and adhesives used in our life are made of macromolecules called as polymers. The lecture gives several fundamental views to realize basic theories in polymer science.|

|Improvement of demerits of polymers and plastics|
|It is known that polymeric materials such as polyethylene and polypropylene give excellent physical properties and chemical stabilities. In addition, they do not give any harmful gas when burning, and are cheap. But, they have no wettability to water, cannot be dyed with water-soluble dyes, and cannot be bound to other materials with adhesives. This study is carried out to overcome the demerits and to enlarge the use area of these materials.
|Ii is known that proteins are very important materials for our life, because they provide not only the materials which form the body of living things but also the materials such as leather and fibers. When we prepare the proteins by artificial methods, the products are sometimes called as protein models. The present study has been carried out in order to prepare polypeptides with constant high-molecular weight and to reveal unsolved problems in the polymerization of N-carboxy amino acid anhydrides (amino acid NCAs) which are not solved for over 80 years.|
|I am carrying out my research considering the originality and the novelty. I also consider both of the academic contribution and the application to our life. This might be not easy, but I am not satisfied with the imitation of other people's researches. In present, " effective reuse of waste materials produced by plastics, fibers, food, etc. for considering to keep resources and environment", "new synthetic methods to prepare valuable protein models", and "the preparation of materials which can clean water and air" are main subjects in my laboratory.
Especially, I made a success to prepare mono-dispersed and high molecular weight (10000-200000) synthetic proteins (polypeptides) which had been considered to be theoretically impossible. In addition, I prepared water-absorptive polypropylene, and polyethylene, silicone resin and fluorine resin, etc. which can be bonded to other materials. These results were presented in “Innovation Japan 2008, and 2009” which the organization of Japanese government held. Over thousand people came to see our presentation.
